A deposit has not appeared
The answer is almost always visible in your own wallet, before you contact anybody.
Expected timings
| Stage | Roughly |
|---|---|
| Broadcast to first confirmation | About two minutes |
| First confirmation to platform credit | About ten minutes |
| Worth investigating | After twenty minutes |
| Worth contacting anyone | After an hour, with the transaction details ready |
Check these in your own wallet
- Is it confirmed, and how many times. Unconfirmed after a long wait usually means a fee set too low, which is an easy accident when entering one manually.
- Which address did it actually go to. Compare against the deposit page you have open now, not the one you remember.
- Was that address current. A subaddress from an old session left open in a tab is a common cause and it looks like nothing is wrong.
- Did the amount send in full. Fee handling occasionally surprises people who set it manually.
The one reaction that makes it worse
Sending a second deposit to fix the first. This turns one stuck transaction into two, does not accelerate anything, and leaves you explaining a more complicated situation than you started with. Whatever is happening to the first payment, a second one does not affect it.
Why a fresh address each time
Subaddresses exist so a wallet can separate incoming payments without linking them. A fresh one per deposit means two payments cannot be tied together by their destination, which is most of the point of using this currency at all. Reusing an old one defeats that and can credit the wrong place if it has been recycled on the platform side.
The mistake that costs more than a missing deposit
Sending directly from an exchange that knows who you are to a deposit address. The chain hop is private. The exchange record is not, and a withdrawal followed a few minutes later by a deposit of a matching amount does most of the work for anybody looking later.
This is where nearly all real world privacy is lost, and it is lost at the boundary rather than anywhere on the platform. The currency protects the transaction and does nothing about timing correlation at the edges. More on this in the money.
